2009 will be a major year for Calgary--especially as it relates to hosting some top-flight sporting events that will generate millions of dollars to Calgary's economy. The list includes everything from curling to water skiing to golf and, of course, the Grey Cup championship.
Mayor Dave Bronconnier held a news conference in Olympic Plaza downtown on Thursday to announce the lineup of major sporting events.

The Calgary Stampede has announced that one of the greatest animals to ever perform at the city's world famous summer rodeo will have a permanent place in the heart of Calgary's downtown business district.
The legendary red and white speckled bull known as Outlaw will be epitomized in a larger than life bronze statue in a location that has yet to be determined.

As I travel past 6th Ave. and Centre Street each morning and afternoon, I've noticed something I've wanted to see for a long time--the rising of the Bow office tower. The massive steel girders have begun to rise out of the ground between 5th and 6th Avenues.

Over the last several months, CMLC has been working internally on describing a vision for East Village that will assist in guiding builders, developers, residents and citizens of Calgary in seeing East Village through a new set of eyes of what it truly can be. The vision for East Village has been the subject of a lot of work internally at CMLC, and recently we held a competition to find an Architectural firm that can give us Advisory Services. After short-listing the possibilities down to 4 exciting teams (two local, two outside of Calgary), we asked those teams to work on showing us some innovation and vision in East Village based on an extensive set of available information and discussion. All four teams provided some excellent work and enthusiasm for the potential of East Village, and we had a real challenge on our hands to determine the right group to work with us.
