The Centre City has a huge and lasting impact on the success of Calgary as a whole. When it thrives, so too, does the rest of the city. That's why today, The City along with the Clean to the Core program and the Centre City Safety Impact Team thanked our partners - organizations and individuals - who work hard to ensure the core stays safe and clean.
"When Clean to the Core was created three years ago, we were experiencing issues around safety and cleanliness in Calgary's Centre City," said Lorna Wallace, Centre City Implementation Project Manager. "Now, thanks to collaboration and the hard work of over 30 dedicated partners, including The City and many businesses, workers and citizens, we're seeing the positive results that only come about when we work together.”
Mayor Dave Bronconnier and Aldermen Joe Ceci and Druh Farrell joined the Centre City team to thank the following people and groups during a brief event at City Hall today. Those thanked included:
Phillips Brothers and Associates
Community Life Improvement Council
University of Calgary student Amanda Plomp
BarWatch Association for Patron Safety
Vinyl Urban Lounge
Mac's (7th Avenue and 8th Street S.W.) owner Sherif Demian
Case Management Group
A number of honourable mentions were also given.
I think a good idea would be to repair the streetlights in the downtown core. This is a safety (perceived or real),liability and comfort aspect that needs to be addressed in a more responsive manner. 311 is only a conduit of information to Roads, who in turn notify Enmax, who in turn schedule repairs.
Months (?) to replace a light bulb does not, in my opinion reflect well upon the Centre City Team's goals to achieve a "Better Downtown".
