We don't usually assign our readers homework but we're making an exception this month...we're asking you to take a little time when you can to read about the upcoming Calgary Police Commission Community Policing Awards. And afterward, if you feel so inclined, you could then go ahead and nominate an individual or group (from the Centre City would be ideal!) for a Community Policing Award.
The mission statement for the awards is to honour individuals and groups that contribute in an extraordinary way to improve police policy and/or the ability of the Calgary Police Service to serve the community.
The nomination process for the Calgary Police Commission Community Policing Awards is open annually from February 1 through March 1. To nominate an individual or a group for a Community Policing Award, please complete the Nomination Form and submit the form to the Calgary Police Commission on or before the deadline.
Nominees are evaluated on:
- The time and/or effort required of the nominee to perform the work for which they are nominated.
- The gap filled by the work, or the gap that would be left by the absence of the work. and
- The value added to the Calgary Police Service, the Calgary Police Commission and/or the City of Calgary by their contribution
So think about what policing/enforcement/community outreach has worked in the Centre City over the past year - and if you come up with someone or a group you feel deserves some big-time acknowledgement, make sure you speak up. Thanks!
