Ever been in the Centre City and found yourself looking for a way to get home?
Well, The City of Calgary has heard your call and together with our partners in area BRZs, the taxi, restaurant and bar industries, we've created the Late Night Ride Home Stand!
The Stand is a place where taxis can line-up and wait for customers. Twelve are installed at various locations throughout the Centre City – all conveniently placed near entertainment spots for convenience and safety for all.
The Late Night Ride Home Stands operate:
Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights between 10 PM and 3 AM.
If you're driving - please don't park in the spots - you will be ticketed and towed. How do you know where NOT to park? Here's the parking sign you should look for:
Watch the Report to Calgarians video here:
And here’s a little map and some taxi numbers that you can print off and stick in your pocket, wallet, handbag, backpack, etc.:
A bunch of restaurants, bars and taxi drivers will be handing them out too. For a pdf version of the map, go here.
Let us know what you think of the Late Night Ride Home Stands, especially if you’ve tried them out. They are being monitored to gauge the effectiveness.

A Reminder to Drivers: No Parking in Late Night Ride Home Stands

Hi Evan,
Not yet, it's something that has been thought about and will be considered if there is a call for it down the road. The project is in a pilot stage and will be monitored over the next few months, if successful, an investment like that could be made.
Right now,you can get a card with a map of all the stands on calgary.ca/centrecity (or on this blog post) or from our partner taxi drivers and restaurants.
Thanks for your comment!

Hi Sean -
The stands are operational every Thursday, Friday and Saturday night all-year.
Hope that clarifies!

Great idea, but wondering, why not have these stands in place all the time? Do people only drink and drive at christmas?

Thanks for your feedback Dave! Your suggestion (and others)will be passed along to the project team. They'll be evaluating the stands over the next few months and if Calgarians say they need stands elsewhere - it will be on their radar.
Also, I fixed the pdf. Thanks! : )

I think it's a brilliant concept!
Are there plans to space them out a little, such as one near Chinatown (which has a lot of late night restaurants)?
Oh, and the PDF link doesn't look like it's working :-(
